Adorable, 12lb Koda was turned over to a shelter for nipping children.  In addition, he is protective of his owner and will nip unfamiliar adults, if he's in the presence of his owner.  When being handled by the veterinarian and veterinary technicians in the absence of his owner, he did not nip.

Koda cannot be placed in a home with children.  Koda will nip visitors to your home.  Koda needs an adopter who can work with this behavior and has a certain amount of experience and skill with gentle training techniques.  Koda is easily frightened.

Koda is very active, very loving with his owner, very very smart, and has strong herding tendencies including giving the eye, to other dogs.  Koda is also EXTREMELY competitive with other male dogs except for extremely mellow male dogs.

Koda gets along well with most female dogs and our kitty.  There are some male dogs that Koda seems to be afraid of and will have issues with.

On arrival, we saw that Koda was house trained however he was not neutered and was lifting his leg and marking in the house.  We had him neutered asap and had him wearing a belly band which is a male dog diaper.  This allowed him to have the run of the house, play with the other dogs, and interact with us, and learn to live in a home.  Koda continues to need to wear a belly band. We use both washable and disposable belly bands.

For potential out-of-state adopters - we are understandably reluctant to place a dog with issues far away.

If you'd like to be considered for an adoption of any of our dogs please REGISTER and fill out our 3 part Application for Adoption.  This is the first step in our adoption process.  If you have questions please feel free to call us at 801-231-3031, send a Facebook Messenger message to Barbara Edelberg or email SheltieRescueXmission.com.
