Aria is a beautiful Sheltie girl with unusual coloring. She's about 70% white with a sable head. She has one brown eye and one striking blue eye. Aria is just over 1 1/2 years of age. Her previous owner overfed her and we've been taking weight off of her since she arrived here about a month or more ago.
Aria needs to lose still more weight. Whoever adopts her will have to be commited to helping her get to a healthy weight. Aria is very sweet, doesn't quite know how to interact with her people, but is very willing to learn. She would do best with a family that won't quit on her and will seek training classes to help Aria reach her potential.
Aria was bred in Canada and was imported into the U.S. by her previous owner. She was relinquished because she didn't do well with the grandchildren that came to visit. We haven't noticed any particular problems with people. Aria does engage in immature behaviors such as trying to herd me, grabbing my pants (around the ankle) with her teeth, and using her paws to grab my leg.
Aria likes to leap on the couch and cuddle on top of me. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to find her cuddled up behind my knees. She's not tiny so I thought it was pretty inventive of her to find a way to be so close to me. Other times she will leap on top of me and startle me completely.
Aria sleeps in a crate at night. We do this so she doesn't try to play with us or other dogs while we're trying to sleep. She also eats in a crate and is pretty well behaved in one.
Aria is still in a heavy chewing stage. We say that dogs grow out of this stage around 1 1/2 to 2 years of age. Aria will be chewing for awhile longer. If you leave her unattended she may try to chew on furniture or other things that wouldn't make you happy. Luckily she will go into her crate with a bowl of water, some toys, nylabones, and chew sticks and be pretty good about this.
Aria has a great deal of potential. She very much wants to bond with a person who is her person and she'll very much want to please you. Yelling makes Aria (and many dogs and people) a bit anxious so if anyone in your household is loud she's probably not going to be a good match for you. In the right home and with the right partner Aria is going to blossom beautifully.
For questions and information about adopting Aria please call Barbara at 801-942-4762. The adoption fee for Aria is $300.00 and a bargain at that price.
